Since the advent of democracy South Africa has provided a stable environment in which to do business. But at the same time, the evolving regulatory environment requires that business actively participates in the development of public policy, both to protect its own interests and to play its part in building a prosperous and competitive nation.
Business organisations face two challenges in the public affairs arena: to ensure that they keep abreast of public policy developments within national, provincial and local government and to make their voices heard among those who legislate and regulate.
The challenge for government is that business organisations are often unfamiliar and unengaged with government and political structures, and this denies government access to business views and expertise during the public policy making process.
